Accidently ran a red light :(?

i accidently ran a red light today, i saw the light on red (i live in the uk) there has been alot of snow. i didnt think at the time, and i put on my brakes, which made me skid over the line and i would have came to a stop in the middle of the junction. i made the choice to quickly put it into second gear and speed away out of danger! i know there was a camera, dont know if it got me or not. can i argue the ticket if i get one? (only ped my test last week, so i could do without 3 points already!)
