Crock pot questions....?

I have a big crock pot, I think it is a 5qt, but nothing on it says how many quarts it is. Is there anyway of finding that out? (I am new at this crock pot thing) I have used it for some stew and a few other soups/stews, and I have an old crock pot recipe book, and it says I can make bread in it, but I need a bread and cake pan to go in it. Why? Actually any crock pot info would be great. I am loving it cause I work late some days and it is nice to come home to homemade food that I otherwise wouldn't have time to cook (I just don't like getting up early to put it all together) :) Thanx bunches!
