Star wars question - why are there no battle droids in the original trilogy?

So from my understanding, after the republic lost the war, most of the clone troopers turned into stormtroopers, so what happened to the battle droids? Do they not have an explanation as to why there are no battle droids in the original trilogy? Where were the droids manufactured anyway?
