Going skiing/snowboarding for the first time.?

I'm going to Northern Vermont with some Fraternity Brothers to hit up Smuggler's Notch. I'm renting equipment but still am skeptical about stuff I should bring/be wary of. Anybody have some good tips to share with me so I don't look like a newbie!? Lots of points for the best answer and shared points if multiple answers are provided! = ) thanks!!
